Chair of the Board

Susanne Whiteway

Susanne is a twenty year resident of Pouch Cove with a long-time interest in history, folklore, and traditional crafts.

She has worked in publishing as an editor and writer as well as in the community sector as a consultant and program facilitator.

Susanne joined the heritage society a number of years ago, taking on the role of Chair in 2023.

Secretary 

Rebecca Wall 

Rebecca started her career working in law firms after she completed a word processing course at the Newfoundland Secretarial Academy in St. John’s. She then set out for Toronto and continued to work in law firms and trust companies, moving home to Pouch Cove in 2003 with extensive secretarial and administrative experience. 

Rebecca has volunteered on a number of committees over the years and joined the Pouch Cove Heritage Society in 2021, assisting with taking and preparing minutes, wherein she now serves as Secretary of the Board.

Treasurer

Thomas Mengel

Tom and his wife Marion made Pouch Cove their home in January 2023. Having immigrated from Germany in 2002, they lived in BC for 3 years and moved to New Brunswick in 2005.

Tom is a trained historian (PhD in modern history), futurist, writer, social entrepreneur and he recently retired from his position as professor (leadership studies) at the University of New Brunswick.

He loves engaging with his new home community, its rich culture, and its promising future opportunities. Tom also serves as member of the board (President) of Killick Coast North Seniors Co-operative.

Director

Garry Knight

Garry has been a resident of Shoe Cove in the Town of Pouch Cove all his life. He is the fifth generation of Knights in Shoe Cove and has been a director of the society since 2011. 

A jack of all trades, Garry has worked for NASA as a Powerhouse Engineer and Heavy Equipment mechanic, for Federal Energy Mines & Resources as an antenna specialist and has owned and operated his own heavy equipment construction company for almost 40 years. 

Garry’s interests lie in genealogy and the preservation of our past.

Director

Monica Noseworthy 

Monica is a long time resident of Pouch Cove with a background in Education.

She is a retired teacher who currently serves on the sub-committee for the SUF Hall Restoration project as well as being one of the chairs of the annual Heritage Days.

Monica has always been interested in history and for the last 10 years has been meeting weekly with her like-minded friends in a group called History Hotties.

Director

Marion E. Mengel

Marion and her husband Tom have made Pouch Cove their home in January 2023.

Having immigrated from Germany in 2002, they lived in BC for three years before moving to New Brunswick in 2005. Marion is an office manager and bookkeeper by trade with more than 30 years experience in Canada and Germany. She also serves as member of the board (Secretary) of Killick Coast North Seniors Co-operative.

Director, Former Chair

Ken Pittman

Ken was born on Bell Island and raised in Corner Brook. His professional work has included Education, Filmmaking and the Visual Arts.

In 2001 Ken and his family moved to Pouch Cove from the city of St. John’s.  About ten years ago his dedication to rural Newfoundland heritage led him to volunteer with the Pouch Cove Heritage Society where he served as Chair of the Board for many years. These days his time is devoted to the SUF Hall Restoration Project.

Vice-Chair

Charlotte Richards

Charlotte Richards is a resident of Pouch Cove, originally from British Columbia.  An avid researcher, Charlotte enjoys many components of cultural heritage and the Arts. 

Charlotte joined the Pouch Cove Heritage Society in 2021 and has actively supported a number of projects and events.

Director

Gail Hudson 

Born and raised in Pouch Cove, Gail is the daughter of Tom & Gwen Hudson.


A board member of the society since 2012, and currently a sub-committee member for the SUF Hall, Gail has been involved as a volunteer in many organizations over the past 40 years.


Now retired from a variety of different clerical positions over the years, Gail is interested in craft sewing, quilting, baking & gardening.

Director

Gloria Haley 

Born, raised and residing in Pouch Cove for 78 years, Gloria has been volunteering in community organizations since the age of fifteen. 

 

She joined Pouch Cove Heritage Society in 2011 and has written and directed three plays for dinner theatres, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all! Gloria remains an integral part in the planning of the Heritage Days yearly weekend events.

Carol LaCosta

After living away for many years, Carol missed that small town feel and being involved in community projects, so she moved home and has become a valuable member of the Society. 

Currently an instructor at the College of the North Atlantic (Early Childhood Education through distance), Carol hopes to be involved with the youth of the community, engaging them in experiences that connect them to their heritage. She is also looking forward to future events and the SUF Hall Restoration Project

Honorary Member

Roy Noseworthy 

Roy comes from generations of Pouch Cove Noseworthy's. From the earliest days of the Heritage Society, beyond his executive work, Roy had a hand in just about every Society initiative for over a decade - Collecting and caring for artifacts and photos, assisting with publications, planning and executing concerts, parades, commemorative plaques and more.
Roy remains an invaluable source of knowledge and inspiration.
